Pillow Dress, 2023

My Pillow Dress soft sculpture is made from three of my personal dresses and stuffed with cotton from pillows found around my home. After creating my series of Quilt Dresses, I wanted to created an object that was fully stuffed with cotton as opposed to a thin layer of cotton batting traditionally used in quilting. The Pillow Dress becomes a stand in for the fullness of my own body and allows me to practice self love and self acceptance by literally embracing my own form.

My self-portraits ask the viewer to observe aspects of my life they would otherwise be excluded from. The more personal the moment captured, the more a viewer can see themselves in my actions and emotions.
